Stowage Facilities - Loving care shows in details

Flexible stowage

We've defined a range of stowage facilities to make the countless things you have to do in a day easier. Mobile phone, drinks, delivery papers and what have you are within easy reach of the driver's seat. And not only that: now the driver's and the co-driver's seat backrests can be fitted with optional stowage nets - this way the rear compartment passengers in the optional crew-package have everything under control, too.

The result: the Sprinter has still more stowage space, additional holders and trays for all everyday essentials. Tailored to the practical requirements of different industries.

Load Compartment - Up to 214 cm (84.3 inches) headroom - and plenty of space.

Sprinter load Compartment

A large load compartment is a good solution. A large load compartment in which you can stand is an even better one: welcome to the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter cargo van. With up to 214 cm (84.3 inches) of interior height, you finally have the ease of movement that you need to quickly load and unload the vehicle. And you can fit a great deal in your Sprinter: up to 17.0 m³ (600 cu ft) of load space awaits, ready to be loaded via particularly wide door openings – with up to 2438 kg (5375 lbs) of cargo, the best capacity in its class. Nearly vertical interior walls and flattened wheel housings provide the best conditions for efficient use.

With the aid of various load-securing devices you make optimal use of the space: thanks to bulkheads, lashing rails and anchoring rings you stow your cargo so that it stays in place.

Doors - Large variety, small effort

Doors

The Sprinter cargo van takes loads as they come. It can be loaded from behind, from the right-hand side or, optionally, from the left as well.

The hinged rear doors which lock into place automatically can be opened up to the sidewall. The side load compartment opening, which is up to 130 cm (51.2 inches) wide and 182 cm (71.7 inches) high, provides unmatched flexibility.

Seating Comfort - A higher position.

Seating

A relaxed seating position not only contributes to your well-being. It prevents tension and fatigue too. Which is why the seats of the Sprinter can be adjusted in numerous ways.

The seat fabric which is especially air-permeable, and the ergonomic seat structure, contribute to a marked improvement of the seat climate. This in turn significantly improves driver-fitness safety.

As an optional extra you also can have all models fitted with electric seat heating or luxury and suspension seats for driver and co-driver [1].

Great spaciousness and many additional convenience features further enhance the seating comfort: for instance, the three-point seat belts and 4-way head restraints as standard for all seats.

[1] Optional equipment

Ride Comfort

Comfort - Driver area Sprinter dashboard

Multifunction steering wheel: keeping an eye on essentials all the time.

Searching for a radio station? Or would you like to compute your average fuel consumption during a trip? No reason for you to take your hands off the steering wheel.

You can use the optional multifunction steering wheel with trip computer to conveniently control these functions using your two thumbs. The corresponding display of the instrument cluster is directly in your field of vision so that you always have your eyes on the road. More comfort, more safety.

Sprinter dashboard

Dashboard: concentrate on essentials
The instrument cluster harmoniously merges design with function: easy-to-read functions mean less distraction while on the move.

Wrong tire pressure or an open load compartment door: now you can really no longer overlook disturbances which affect safety. And you can devote your entire attention to the road.

Selector lever: better ergonomics, more space
The convenient selector lever for the automatic transmission is in an ergonomically practical location on the centre console, saving valuable space in the cab.

Apart from saving space you will notice one thing in particular: it simply feels good in your hand.

Climate Control - Optimum Work Climate

Climate control - Sprinter MiniBus

Best conditions for the driver and co-driver: the electronically controlled TEMPMATIC front air conditioning can be precisely regulated. You keep a cool head even on hot days. The high-performance air conditioning system for the passenger compartment, which provides a particularly pleasant climate in the rear, is available as an option.

Further optional extras afford that certain added margin of comfort: for example the hot-water auxiliary heating, the electric hot-air auxiliary heating or the heated front seats for the driver's and co-driver's seats.

PARKTRONIC - Helpful when things get tight.

Parktronic

The wall behind you is dangerously close. But exactly how close? Ultrasonic sensors determine this using the echo sounder principle. With the optional PARKTRONIC you park smoothly and accurately even in difficult conditions. The system monitors the front and rear areas and warns of obstacles: when the vehicle is moving forward, a LED indicator in the centre of the instrument panel lights up; when reversing, an additional indicator in the exterior mirrors. Below a certain distance from obstacles, an audible warning also is activated

Communication - The journey is the goal.

Parktronic

The Sprinter's various telematics ease your day with entertainment and information.

Choose between the standard Sound 5 radio with MP3-compatible CD player and the optional Audio 20 radio with dual tuner and additional telephone keypad. The radios can be comfortably operated via the multifunction steering wheel [1].

Five front loudspeakers provide an impressive sound backdrop for any trip. And no one can rob you of the experience, because the speakers are protected from theft.

With the new Bluetooth hands-free feature you can speak on the phone or listen to your MP3s over your mobile phone conveniently.

And now a new pre-installation feature is available for the attachment of mobile navigation systems and smartphones. It offers the possibility to connect a 12-Volt socket and sound output via the vehicle's loudspeaker system. With the muting function the radio can be faded out during navigation announcements.

[1] Optional equipment

There’s no such thing as too much safety

We've made every effort to ensure that the Sprinter offers the driver, co-drivers, passengers and other road users the highest possible degree of protection.

  • ADAPTIVE ESP® with ABS, EBD, Brake Assist and ASR plus ESP® trailer stabilisation
  • Very good crash characteristics due to stable passenger compartment
  • Full-size airbags and three-point seat belts
  • Both exterior mirrors with integral additional wide-angle mirrors
  • Load securing by means of flexible lashing system
  • Reversing camera with 7" monitor as reversing and maneuvering aid [1]
  • Start-off Assist
  • Bi-xenon headlamps with cornering light function [1]
  • Rain sensor with Headlamp Assist [1]
  • Tire-pressure monitoring system

Perception - There's no such thing as too much safety.

Safety - Sprinter Bi-Xenon Lights

Bi-xenon headlamps: brighter, farther, safer

The optional bi-xenon headlamps with their automatic range adjustment enable uniform illumination of the roadway – without dazzling oncoming traffic.

Conventional headlamps are unable to provide sufficient illumination of the area to the side immediately ahead of a vehicle. This is particularly true in tight curves, at junctions and when maneuvering. In situations like these, the illumination provided by the low-beam headlamps is complemented by an additional light source when cornering at speeds up to 70 km/h, while the cornering light function is activated when the direction indicator is operated at speeds up to 40 km/h – depending on the steering angle in both cases.

The adaptive system with the cornering light function thus also follows the movement of the steering wheel and illuminates the roadway verges – for added safety.

Rain Sensor

Rain sensor: extremely sensitive

The optional rain sensor will certainly please you: at dusk or when passing through tunnels, the vehicle lights switch on automatically.

The sensor also detects precipitation on the windscreen, activates the wipers, and even adjusts the wiping speed to the intensity of the rain.

Side Mirrors

Wide-angle mirrors: two mirrors see more than one

Both exterior mirrors of the Sprinter are complemented by an additional wide-angle mirror allowing you to keep a watchful eye on cyclists and pedestrians when making turns, for example.

The indicator lights have also been integrated into the exterior mirror housings to enhance safety when making turns.

The wide-angle mirror on the heated exterior mirror is heated, too – which means it can prevent the mirror from misting up or freezing over.

Rear Camera

Rear-view camera: more hindsight every day

With the optional rear-view camera, reversing becomes child's play:

When reverse gear is engaged, the reversing camera with a 7" monitor shows the area behind the vehicle. Audible signals are also transmitted.

With this the system makes the parking and maneuvering process simpler and safer.

ADAPTIVE ESP®: stability in an instant

Safety - Sprinter Adaptive ESP

The electronic stability program ADAPTIVE ESP® is a driving dynamics regulatory system that for the first time takes the vehicle load into account. It intervenes in critical situations by activating the brakes on individual wheels, as well as adjusting engine output in order to stabilize the vehicle [1].

ADAPTIVE ESP® integrates the functions of the anti-lock braking system (ABS), acceleration skid control (ASR), electronic brake force distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BAS) and start-off assist (AAS) while also adding a handling stability aid.

In order to also improve road safety when towing a trailer, we have added ESP® Trailer Stability Assist to the functionality of ADAPTIVE ESP®.

The new system intervenes in a targeted manner if the trailer begins swinging back and forth and helps the driver to stabilise the car/trailer combination. The ESP® trailer stabilisation is active by default if the vehicle is equipped with a trailer coupling ex factory, whereas if on the other hand a trailer coupling is retrofitted, the function can be activated by any authorised Mercedes-Benz dealer retroactively.

Brakes

Brake system. Great stability

The Sprinter is equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels. Our engineers also managed to further improve the tried and tested dual-circuit hydraulic brake system. An electronic indicator on each of the four wheels additionally tells about the current condition of the brake pads.

An anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD) are standard equipment of the Sprinter, of course, as are the Brake Assist System (BAS) and acceleration skid control (ASR).

[1] ADAPTIVE ESP® can only act within the laws of physics. It is therefore impossible for ADAPTIVE ESP® to prevent skidding resulting from aquaplaning, for example. If the driver exceeds the physical limits, even ADAPTIVE ESP® will not be able to prevent an accident.
No system, regardless of how advanced, can overcome the laws of physics or correct careless driving. Please always wear your seatbelt.

Air Bags and seat belts - Exercising restraint

Safety - Sprinter Brakes

It's only the interaction of airbags and belts that enables better protection against impact. So the Sprinter passenger van not only has front airbags as standard for the driver and co-driver but also three-point seat belts, head restraints, belt tensioners, belt force limiters and belt reminders [1].

Belt reminders give the driver a visual and audible signal if he or she fails to put on the seat belt.

In a collision, belt tensioners instantly take all slack out of the belts and enhance passive safety in the event of an accident.

The optional windowbags and thorax bags deploy on the impact side in severe side collisions. The windowbag serves to increase the degree of protection available for the head of the driver or co-driver. Housed in the seat backrests, thorax bags are designed to provide increased protection for the thorax of the seat occupant.

The figure above shows various deployed airbags (maximum deployment) – for illustrative purposes only.
Airbags do not eliminate the need for occupants to always belt up properly, as they only offer full protection to passengers who are wearing their seat belts properly.
The forces of a deploying airbag can cause serious or fatal injuries to a child under age 13. Children under age 13 should be seated in the back seat if possible.
[1] Belt tensioners and belt force limiters are only available for the driver and co-driver.

Rigid passenger safety cell

Safety - Sprinter Brakes

If worse comes to worst, it's good to know that, with the Sprinter, you have chosen a robust and safe place to be. A highly stress-resistant system of beams and a high-strength safety cell are the basis of its safety body. Both are optimised for strength and stiffness during the design phase in respect to protection of occupants and other road users and offer excellent crash characteristics.

So-called deformation boxes in the front structure of the Sprinter divert the forces of an impact in a well-directed and controlled manner.

This helps the passenger cell retain stability in the event of a head-on collision, to provide better protection to the occupants.

Secure Load

Safety - Sprinter

Loose cargo can develop a dangerous situation on the road. The Sprinter cargo van consequently offers a versatile and flexible load-securing and cargo-retention system to secure objects to the floor and walls of the cargo area.

In addition to the standard-fit load-securing rings with reinforced payload, the lashing rails in the floor, sidewalls and below the roof frame plus tensioning straps are also available. Further load-securing aids are also available as accessories.

Additionally, bulkheads in various forms protect the driver and co-driver from cargo which gets out of place.

Safe and convenient: the start-off assist feature

Safety - Sprinter

Start-off Assist, an integral part of the ESP®, makes it easier to start off on uphill slopes:

After the brake pedal is released, the brake pressure is maintained for approximately two seconds, allowing the driver to move his or her foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator without having to worry about the vehicle starting to roll. Start-off Assist is activated on uphill slopes of approx. 4% or steeper. It is not activated when starting off on the flat or on a downhill slope.

Technology. Impressive - on the road and on paper:

Technology - Comes standard with built in advantages.

Technology - Sprinter

Not just from a practical perspective, but also in terms of economy and the environment, the Sprinter is your professional partner, with a modern V6 turbodiesel engine that satisfies your every need for fuel-efficiency, performance and environmental friendliness.

With long periods between maintenance repairs, which, combined with friendly service, ensure that running costs are kept to a minimum. All of this is topped off with legendary Mercedes-Benz longevity.

  • V6 turbodiesel engine with BlueTEC technology, a part of the BlueEFFICIENCY solutions
  • 5-speed automatic transmission

BlueEFFICIENCY. Innovations for efficient mobility

Technology - Sprinter

For Mercedes-Benz it is both an aspiration and an obligation to responsibly shape the long-term future of mobility. The way forward is called BlueEFFICIENCY, forward-looking efficiency-boosting technologies optimizing fuel consumption and emissions. The benefits of BlueEFFICIENCY are standard in the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

Using innovative BlueTEC SCR diesel technology, the Sprinter already meets the strict limits on emissions imposed by the EPA 10 emissions standard valid from 2010, while also meeting your expectations for a modern, economical propulsion system.

Forward-looking BlueTEC technology reduces emissions by filtering exhaust fumes, running them through a catalytic converter and adding a water-based additive called DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid). In this process, environmentally harmful nitrogen oxides are converted into harmless nitrogen and water. The result is a significant reduction in harmful substances and particulates - and one of the cleanest diesel engines in the world.

You will only notice the fact that your vehicle is equipped with BlueTEC, one of the most advanced exhaust technologies, at the filling station, due to the separate filler neck for the additive DEF, and the fact that your fuel expenses will be pleasingly low in future.

Engine - Great power, even for difficult tasks

Technology - Sprinter

For 100 years, Mercedes-Benz has been developing and building increasingly efficient, powerful and clean diesel engines. They contribute just as much to the overall value for money of a Mercedes-Benz as the high quality standards and reliable resale value.

The highly modern V6 turbodiesel engine with 188 hp is characterized by clean combustion, low emissions and a high level of economical efficiency. In the Sprinter, it forms the basis for BlueTEC, the SCR diesel technology from Mercedes-Benz.

Value for money and passion achieve an ideal balance in the Sprinter. With maximum torque of 325 lb-ft, its efficient V6 turbodiesel engine provides a lot of power on the road when it’s most needed, on hills and gradients, when overtaking on the motorway, and when accelerating in urban traffic. Thanks to the state-of-the-art common-rail technology, maximum torque is already available at low engine speeds - exactly what is needed in a commercial van.

> More on engine.

Transmission - A strong impetus for your enterprise

Technology - Sprinter

The Sprinter cargo van comes standard with a 5-speed automatic transmission which will impress you with its outstanding shifting comfort.

And because you are aided by the standard Start-off Assist system, you can relax in your day-to-day driving.
