Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers the lowest cost of ownership
Mercedes-Benz Canada Press Release: Aug 15, 2011
Mercedes-Benz Canada is pleased to share the results of a comprehensive study conducted by Vincentric, which revealed that the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers the lowest total cost of ownership in its class in Canada.
The extensive research and calculations were based on an average driving distance of 25,000 kilometers per year for 5 years, and measured eight major costs associated with owning a vehicle including: depreciation, fees & taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs.
The study concluded that the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers a total cost of ownership that is 7.7% to 9.1% lower than its competitors. This translates into a savings of approximately $6,000 - $7,000 over a five year period. Key factors that contributed to these significant savings were the Sprinter's low fuel costs, which save buyers approximately $2,500 per year, as well as the vehicle's longer maintenance intervals, which will reduce service expenses compared to the competition.
Already established as the undisputed benchmark in the light-duty commercial vehicle segment, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter offers exceptional levels of active and passive safety and continues to set the benchmark with respect to advanced technology, fuel efficiency, versatility and performance. The Sprinter's myriad best-in-class features include: cargo capacity, fuel efficiency, interior compartment accessibility (side and rear door opening areas), maintenance intervals, payload and interior standing height. These unique characteristics consistently allow the Sprinter to set the standard in its category.
"Our analysis of the Canadian large heavy duty van market demonstrated the benefits of measuring overall vehicle value based on Total Cost of Ownership instead of purchase price," commented David Wurster, President of Vincentric. "Buyers often think they are saving money because they pay less at the dealership, but as we saw with the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, a higher priced vehicle can provide significant savings when buyers look at the total cost of owning a vehicle."
The Sprinter's value proposition is further substantiated by the fact that it has also been awarded the Canadian Black Book Best Retained Value award for Full-size Vans for two consecutive years. Designed to recognize specific models that outperform their competitors, the awards are based on real world performance and identify vehicles that retain the highest percentage of their original value.
"The compelling findings of the Vincentric study and the Canadian Black Book Award further underscore what every loyal Sprinter customer already knows; the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a highly versatile and extremely practical vehicle that offers an exceptional level of ride comfort, tremendous ease of operation and an unrivaled value proposition in its respective class regardless of the business need or unique requirement," said Tim A. Reuss, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Canada. "With its full and varied model range that can be customized for virtually all applications, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter allows the flexibility to create a custom-designed transportation solution that is truly unmatched in the industry."
